  • ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

    ESOL with Citizenship - Exam Preparation Training - (CEFR Level B1 - GESE Grade 5) - Trinity ESOL B1

     

    This course is suitable if you wish to apply for settlement and naturalisation in the UK. Students prepare for and sit the UKBA required examination in Speaking and Listening at Level B1.  

     

    From 19 November 2015, you must have a Secure English Language Test (SELT) to apply for UK citizenship or indefinite leave to remain (to settle).


    For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship, you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening.


    B1 Test is the English Language Test which is a Home Office requirement, if applying for settlement or British Citizenship. We conduct GESE Grade 5 exam (Grade 5 is equivalent to B1) preparation classes.


    You also need to PASS the Life in the UK Test as part of your application. We run Exam Preparation Classes for both Life in the UK and Trinity B1 Exams.


    Our highly qualified teachers will assess your level at the start and then make a learning plan for you. Our B1 ESOL Entry 3 / Life in the UK- classes start every month. Classes are available on weekdays. We have flexible courses to suit your individual needs. You can do the course on a part-time basis by studying one day a week or two days a week.

     

    About the Exam

    The Exam is 10 minutes long. There are two parts, up to 5 minutes each:

    Discussion of a prepared topic (up to 5 minutes)

    You choose a topic to prepare in advance of the test, for discussion with the examiner.  You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam.

  • SELT - Secure English Language Test

    SELT English Preparation Course for UKVI - Al, A2, B1, B2 


    What is SELT? 


    Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) assess English Language ability and are taken under specific secure conditions. Trinity SELTs is approved by UKVI, part of the Home Office, for Leave to Remain, British Citizenship (Naturalisation) and Tier 1, 2 and 4 visa categories where evidence of English language ability is a requirement. 


    Where can I take a SELT?


     You can take a SELT preparation course at our centre FSEC online or in person. Trinity Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) are approved for applications to UKVI for visas, UK visa renewal, British Citizenship and Leave to Remain. Trinity has over 16 SELT centres across the UK providing exam sessions throughout the week and is committed to providing you with the safest test experience possible currently.


     Which test do I need? 


    Trinity SELTs - English tests for visas: • Speaking and listening in English test GESE: Graded Examinations in Spoken English - Available at levels A1, A2 and B1 Reading, writing, speaking and listening in English test • ISE: Integrated Skills in English - Available at levels B1, B2 and C1 


    Where can I take a Trinity SELT exam?


    You can take a SELT Exam at our centre in Harrow, we are a registered exam centre with Trinity College. Trinity's SELT exams are available at test centres across the UK. These are in London Croydon, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Peterborough.


     Who is the SELT preparation course for? 


    This course is for candidates who need to prepare for a Trinity SELT exam they need for a Home Office visa application in the UK, for an entry application to a UK University, or work purposes. The preparation course will prepare candidates for the exam, but they will need to have the correct level of English to pass this exam. If a candidate is not at the correct level, a 2-hour preparation course will not help them reach the required level. 


    What will the SELT preparation course involve? 


    The content of the course will vary depending on the needs of the learners. Before the start of the course, we will assess your English language level and your skills in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. We will then run a course to prepare you for the exam you wish to sit. The course will cover - exam technique, language improvement, familiarisation with the SELT exam structure and criteria and preparation for the first part of the exam. We will also provide you with the training materials and guidance on what you will need to do to pass the exam. If you are not at the level required for the exam, we will suggest courses you can do to improve your English before you sit the exam. After your preparation course, we can book your Trinity SELT exam for you at our centre or with an examination centre that is most convenient for you.


     What level of English do candidates need to have? 


    Candidates who join a preparation course must have the required level of English to pass the exam they want to sit. Where a candidate is not at the required level, we recommend that they attend a course to improve their English before they join the preparation course. 


    What type of SELT do I need for UKVI? 


    Further Leave to Remain (A1) 

    For Further Leave to Remain you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A1 in Speaking and Listening. 


    Trinity's GESE Grade 2 exam (CEFR A1)

     • 6-minute speaking and listening test

     • Provisional results on the same day 

    • Certificate usually sent within 7 days 

    • Speaking and listening only 


    Further, Leave to Remain (visa extension) (A2) 

    After two-and-a-half years in the UK, non-EEA nationals on the five-year partner or parent route to the settlement must pass a SELT in speaking and listening at A2 level to qualify for further leave to remain.


     Trinity's GESE Grade 3 exam (CEFR A2) 

    • 7-minute speaking and listening test

     • Provisional results on the same day 

    • Certificate usually sent within 7 days

    • Speaking and listening only.



     Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship (B1)


     For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship, you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening.

     

    Trinity's GESE Grade 5 exam (CEFR B1)

     • 10-minute speaking and listening test

    Trinity's ISE:

    Integrated Skills in English (B1) Secure English Language Test (SELT) is a test of 4 skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening and has been approved by Trinity for this purpose.

    What is IELTS?

    IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is designed to assess the language ability of those who want to study or work where English is the first language of communication. It conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment.



    International Recognition

    IELTS is a recognised course for university admissions in many countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, and the UK, and increasingly in Germany and wider Europe.


    IELTS is also required as proof of your language abilities for immigration to Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and Canada.


    Course Contents:


    Reading

    To be able to read semi-automatic texts of various things (informative and general interest) to show understanding of gist, detail, and text structure, deduce meaning, and able to answer the given questions correctly.


    Writing

    To write non-specialised text types such as letters, reports, and reviews covering a range of topics and target readers and explanations of pie diagrams, bar charts, maps, and graphs.


    Listening

    To understand the meaning of spoken English, and to extract gist and meaning from spoken text. The texts are taken from a variety of text types including interviews, discussions, lectures, and conversations.


    Speaking

    To be able to respond to questions and to interact in conversational English; it includes an interview section, a collaborative task based on a cue card, and a discussion.


    What does the test consist of?

    The test is made up of four parts taken over one day:

    1. Listening 40 minutes

    2. Reading 1 hour

    3. Writing 1 hour

    4. Speaking 15 minutes

    Your language skills will be evaluated on a scale from 0 (non-user) to 9 (expert user).


    Test Modules

    You can choose between the Academic and General Training Modules.


    Choose the Academic Module if you want to go to university in an English-speaking country or if you want to register with the General Medical Council or GDC in the UK.


    If you wish to immigrate to Australia, New Zealand or Canada opt for the General Training Module.


    To make sure that you choose the module you need, please check with the institution you are doing the test for. It is your responsibility to choose the right module.


    Preparing for the test

    It is not necessary to attend an IELTS preparation course though it is, of course, a good idea to prepare thoroughly for the test.

    Life in the UK Exam Preparation Classes - For Citizenship and Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) - CEFR level B1 - GESE Grade 5

     

    What is the course about?

    This course applies to those who want to take their Life in the UK Test and need help with the exam preparation.


    This course will prepare you to take the latest Official Life in the United Kingdom Test (3rd Edition – 2022: A Guide for New Residents) through interactive classes that cover all five chapters.


    We have designed our training in an easy-to-understand manner, where students no longer have to go through the entire text in the handbook. Our training focuses on key points you need to remember, by assisting students with audio and visual training aids.


    Who is this course for?

    “The Life in the United Kingdom Test" is for anyone seeking Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK (ILR) or Naturalisation as a British Citizen – (to apply for a British Passport). Students should have English language knowledge, equivalent to ESOL E3 level.


    Anyone with basic English language skills (especially reading), could join our General English Course and then gradually progress towards Life in the UK course. 


    The Test

    There are 24 multiple-choice questions, of which around 17 or 18 must be answered correctly to pass. The test is computer-based. You will get your result straight after the test. The test certificate is valid for life. 


    You will be able to prepare for the exam using the computer before the test. You will be able to choose various screen fonts and colors to help you read from the screen more effectively. You will be able to listen to the questions and the possible answers (in English only) by using headphones.

  • Driving Theory

    CAR Driving Theory Test & Hazard Perception Exam Preparation Training Course


    Are you struggling to pass your Driving theory test? 

    If you need help with the CAR theory test we can help!

    Who is this course for?

    This course is suitable for anyone who hasn’t previously studied for the theory test or has previously failed the Theory Test one or more times. The focus is on providing a good understanding of the Highway Code as well as the structure and contents of the test.


    Driving Theory Test Questions

    The DSA Driving Theory Test has two parts.

    The first is a multiple choice consisting of 50 questions and you need to score a minimum of 43 to pass.


    The second part is a Hazard Perception Test where you are shown 14 video clips showing various hazards (one clip has two separate hazards) and you will score a maximum of 5 points for each hazard decreasing with the length of time it takes you to respond. The maximum score is 75 and the pass rate for learners must be at least 44.


    You will need to pass both parts to complete your Theory Test. If you pass one part and fail the other, you will fail the whole test and will have to take both parts again.

    ESOL Skills for Life – Trinity College English Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life (SfL)


    Designed for:

    The Skills for Life tests are designed for learners aged 14+ whose home language is not English, and who are living or trying to settle in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. These ESOL learners may include refugees or asylum seekers, migrant workers, people from settled communities, and partners or spouses of people who have settled in this country for several years.


    It is expected that the learners' educational and employment backgrounds will be diverse, as well as their aspirations, literacy levels, and language learning skills. This diversity will be reflected in the range of material selected for use in these tests and in the task types that candidates will need to complete.


    Pre-requisites:

    None.

         

    ESOL Skills for Life:

    Available at five levels — Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2

    Wholly externally assessed, by trained and experienced examiners

    Available on demand to suit the learner and the learning provider

     

    Spoken English Training

    Designed for learners whose home language is not English, and who are living or trying to settle in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

    In the first section, we look at your background and your personal circumstances and identify your needs and barriers, to which we support you through each barrier, by providing you with information and signposting you to the relevant services and resources available. 


    We then look at your current skills, knowledge and relevant experience, which will help to identify any gaps in knowledge and experience or additional support you may require as well as to place you in an appropriate area of business.


    After the Initial Assessment

    After our initial assessment we set short- and long-term career or educational goals you wish to achieve.
